Description

Kaiser Aquatics Limnophila Sessiliflora (Medium Tech)

Limnophila sessiliflora, commonly known as Asian Ambulia or Dwarf Ambulia, is an undemanding aquatic plant that’s popular in the aquarium hobby for its fast growth and attractive, fine-leaved appearance. It’s a great alternative to the more light-intensive Cabomba species, offering similar aesthetic benefits with lower light demands.

This plant has light green, pinnate leaves and can develop rust-brown shoot tips under good lighting conditions. It’s well-suited for both low-tech and high-tech aquariums, providing a lush backdrop or midground with its rapid growth, which also aids in controlling algae by competing for nutrients.

Care Tips:

  • Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 22-28°C with a pH range of 5.5-8.5, making it very adaptable to various water conditions.
  • Lighting: Can grow under medium light but does better with higher light, which can encourage more compact and colorful growth.
  • CO2: While not mandatory, CO2 supplementation can lead to denser, bushier growth and can bring out reddish coloration in the leaves.
  • Substrate: Prefers a nutrient-rich substrate, but can utilize water column nutrients effectively. Regular fertilization can enhance its health and growth.
  • Pruning: Due to its rapid growth, regular trimming is necessary to keep it from overtaking the tank. Cuttings can be replanted to propagate new plants.

Ideal Placement in Aquarium: Limnophila sessiliflora is ideal for the background of an aquarium where it can form a dense, bushy group. It looks best when planted in clusters, providing a natural, lush look. Its growth habit also allows for the creation of naturalistic hiding spots for fish and can help in managing water quality by absorbing excess nutrients. However, care should be taken in regions where it’s considered invasive, as it can spread quickly outside of controlled environments.

In a few days, after placing your plants in the aquarium you will notice some of the leaves start to melt and fall away.
This means the transition process has started. Please note the plants might look DEAD, but they are fully alive, so do not panic. After a few days, you will notice new growth will appear and the plant will fully change its form into submersed growth. You need to continuously trim and put fertilizer in for the plants to thrive in your aquarium.

Plant Food/Fertilizer:

If you are looking for a good plant fertilizer, you can look at the 2hr Aquarist range. APT Zero for new aquariums and APT Complete for older setups. Alternatively – you can use Easylife Profito or Scape Complete if you are on a budget.

*This is a Potted Plant and NOT a Tissue Culture Plant. This plant was grown in a greenhouse and is NOT guaranteed to be snail, algae, or pesticide-free. Potted plants are cheaper than Tissue Culture Plants as they are not grown in a sterile laboratory. They generally appear to be bigger than Tissue Culture plants. We recommend Tissue Culture Plant for 100% client satisfaction.

Delivery was fast, and plant was packed in a neat sealed bag with some water. Plant looks perfect with a lot of root growth and no dead or molten leaves. Mcmerwe really takes care of their clients, and attention to detail is superb. Would recommend their products to anyone.
