NT Labs Ammonia Test

Keep your fish safe with the NT Labs Freshwater Ammonia Test, specially designed to monitor one of the most harmful substances in aquatic environments. Ammonia is a toxic waste product released by fish and also forms from uneaten food and decaying organic matter like plant leaves. Because ammonia is invisible to the naked eye, regular testing is essential—it can’t be detected just by looking at the water. Fortunately, beneficial bacteria in your filter convert ammonia into less harmful nitrite, but even small amounts of ammonia can be dangerous to aquatic life.

Quick and Easy to Use
Using the test is simple. Just fill a clean test tube with 5 ml of aquarium or pond water, then add 5 drops each of Ammonia Reagents 1, 2, and 3. Shake well, wait 10 minutes, and compare the color of the sample to the chart provided. A yellow color indicates safe, ammonia-free water. Any green tint signals the presence of ammonia and requires action.

What to Do If Ammonia Is Detected
There is no safe level of ammonia—readings must remain at zero mg/l (ppm). If you detect 0.2 mg/l (ppm), use a biological filter enhancer like NT Labs Aquarium Filter Starter or Pond Mature. For higher levels, perform an immediate water change: 25% for 0.5–1.0 mg/l, and 50% for anything above. Adding NT Labs Ammonia Remover to your filter will also help neutralize ammonia. It’s also wise to test for other water quality parameters such as pH, KH, and nitrite when ammonia is present.

Highly Accurate Drop Test System
Unlike dip strips, NT Labs Test Kits use precise liquid drop reagents to ensure consistent and accurate results every time. This method provides a more reliable way to monitor and maintain healthy water conditions.

McMerwe’s comments: Ammonia is invisible but highly toxic, so regular testing is a must—especially in new or heavily stocked tanks. This test is easy to use and helps you catch problems before they become serious. [Rating: 5/5]
