RTG Taxiphyllum barbieri (Low Tech)

RTG Taxiphyllum barbieri, or Java Moss, is a versatile and low-maintenance plant that adds lush green texture to aquascapes, ideal for carpeting, attaching to driftwood, or creating natural hiding spots for fish and shrimp.

Instructions:

1. Make sure you understand how to grow aquatic plants:

  • Click/tap >>HERE<< to view our easy guide explaining the needs of aquatic plants.

2. Planting Instructions for Rotala Rotundifolia:

  • Firstly, remove the plant from the tissue culture container.
  • Gently rinse off any gel or residue from the roots using tap or dechlorinated water.
  • Carefully separate the individual stems or plants, taking care not to damage the roots.
  • Using tweezers, plant the stems into your substrate, spacing them as needed for growth.
  • Avoid handling the roots roughly to prevent tearing or breaking.

3. Transitioning process

  • Rotala Green will adapt from emersed to submersed growth in your aquarium.
  • Provide stable water conditions for best results.
  • Dose a quality aquatic fertilizer as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Ensure you have appropriate lighting for healthy green growth.
  • Regularly prune to encourage bushy and compact growth.
  • A COâ‚‚ system is highly recommended for optimal development.
  • Perform 20–30% water changes weekly to maintain good water quality.
  • Be patient, as the plant will gradually adjust to its new environment.

Care Requirements:

  • Water Parameters:
    Temperature: 20–28 °C
    pH Range: 6.0–7.5
    Water Hardness: 2–12 dGH

  • Nutrient Requirements:
Low-maintenance; grows well under moderate lighting. Occasional fertilization can enhance growth. COâ‚‚ is optional but helps achieve denser coverage.

  • Tank Setup:
Perfect for attaching to driftwood, rocks, or ornaments. Trim periodically to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth.

In a few days, after placing your plants in the aquarium you will notice some of the leaves start to melt and fall away.
This means the transition process has started. Please note the plants might look DEAD, but they are fully alive, so do not panic. Also, after a few days you will notice new growth will appear and the plant will fully change its form into submersed growth. You need to continuously trim and put a fertilizer in for the plants to thrive in your aquarium. Two good fertilizers include Easy Life – Profito and Scape Complete. All plants have specific needs but if you follow the general instructions on our labels the plant will transition well and will eventually succeed and prosper in your aquarium.
