Dr Tank EI Method
Transform your aquarium into a lush underwater paradise with our Dr Tank EI Method, specially designed for planted tanks with over 80% substrate coverage. Engineered to deliver rapid growth rates, this formula is ideal for aquarists seeking vibrant, thriving aquatic plants.
What is EI?
The Estimative Index (EI) is a nutrient-dosing philosophy for planted aquariums that provides non-limiting amounts of nutrients to support optimal plant growth. By dosing nutrients in excess and performing weekly 50% water changes to reset levels, EI eliminates nutrient deficiencies, allowing aquarists to focus on other growth variables like light and CO2. While EI promotes fast growth, robust plants, and easy deficiency diagnosis, it requires frequent trimming and maintenance due to accelerated plant growth. It may also exacerbate algae issues in unstable tanks or hardwater conditions. EI suits heavily planted tanks aiming for rapid growth, while leaner dosing approaches may be better for slower-growing plants, stability, or hardscape-focused setups.
