Seachem Matrix
Seachem Matrix is a high porosity biomedia. Which provides efficient biofiltration. Excellent for the removal of nitrogenous waste. Furthermore, Matrix is a porous inorganic solid about 10 mm in diameter. Each litre of Seachem Matrix provides over 700m² of surface, equivalent to over 170 litres of typical plastic ball media. Plastic bio-materials provide only external surface area. Where as Matrix provides both external and internal macroporous surface area. This supports nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Seachem Matrix, unlike other forms of biomedia, to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter.
Matrix is completely inert and will not break down. And will not need to be replaced. Can be rinsed when needed without damaging the filter. Since the majority of the bacteria are internal.
Matrix is compatible with all types of wet or wet-dry filters.
Sizes: 100 mL, 250 mL, 500 mL, 1 L, 2 L, 4 L
Directions:
Use 250 mL of Seachem Matrix for each 200L of water. Particularly effective in a canister filter or any other kind of filter. Matrix works well in drip tray systems. You can also use the larger Pond Matrix. Moreover, Seachem Matrix is large enough that no filter bag should be required. Lastly, use Seachem Stability to more rapidly establish the bio-filter.

We used the matrix in the DoPhin Canister Filter. The water is super clear!
I would recommend using this product in a mesh bag though (to prevent small bits escaping into the tank).
